Oriental Herbal Nutrient - OHN
OHN has the most steps of the Natural Farming Inputs and is the most expensive to make. Make it once and have it for a long time. The following is Master Cho's recipe.
Materials: Angelica Root, Cinnamon Bark, Licorice Root, Ginger, Garlic, Brown Sugar, Sake (Rice Wine 10-15% alcohol), Vodka (or other 30-40% clear alcohol)
Lots of jars, cloth and lids, chopstick for stirring
DRY INGREDIENTS (Angelica, Licorice, Cinnamon)
Put dry ingredients into SEPARATE Jars. Fill jars 1/3 with each chopped dry herb. Make one extra Angelica Jar
Soak each dry herb in Rice Wine to 1/3 volume of jar. Cover with lid. Set 2 days
After 2 days, add brown sugar to rehydrated herbs to fill 2/3, Cover with cloth
Let Rehydrated herbs and brown sugar sit 4-5 days, ferment
After 5 days, add Vodka to fill jar completely. Cover with lid.
Stir the mixture once a day for 2 weeks.
After 2 weeks strain 1/3 of liquid off.
Refill Jar with Vodka. Herbs may be reused 4-5 times.
FRESH Ingredients (Garlic and Ginger)
Cut up garlic and ginger. In SEPERATE JARS add:
Equal parts herb to brown sugar until jar is 2/3 full. Cover with cloth secured with rubber band.
After 4-5 days, herbs ferment
After 5 days, add Vodka to fill jar completely. Cover with lid.
Stir the mixture once a day for 2 weeks
After 2 weeks Strain 1/3 of liquid off
Refill Jar with Vodka. Herbs may be reused 4-5 times
THE FINAL RECIPE: 2 Angelica: 1 Licorice: 1 Cinnamon: 1 Ginger: 1 Garlic
Personal Note: Similar to homeopathy, if you dilute the final product it will become even more potent! I take 1ml of the final product and dilute it in 99ml of vodka. I then take 1ml from the first dilution and dilute that in another 99ml of vodka, and finally take 1ml from the second dilution and dilute that in another 99ml of vodka, giving a final tincture that is only one millionth part of the original.
Store in cool , dark place, in airtight container. SHAKE before use.
Basic Dilution 1/1000 in water (1/2000 or less if OHN old) ~1/2 TBS for a 5 gallon bucket of water.
